Why isn't my power shower working properly?

Image
A power shower is a great way to enjoy a strong, invigorating flow of water, especially in homes where water pressure is naturally low. But when your power shower starts to malfunction or stops working altogether, it can be incredibly frustrating. If you're wondering why your power shower isn't working properly, there are a number of potential causes, some easy to fix, others that may require professional attention. Low water pressure or flow problems While power showers are designed to increase water pressure, they still rely on a steady flow from hot and cold water tanks. A problem with either of these systems, such as a blocked pipe or a closed valve, can reduce the performance of your shower. Check that your water tanks are full and that the valves that feed your shower pump are open and free from blockages. Shower Pump Faulty The heart of a power shower is the pump, which increases the water pressure. If your shower suddenly loses pressure or stops delivering water altog...

Quick Plumbing Fixes You Should Learn: Simple Solutions for Everyday Issues

Image
Plumbing issues can happen at the most inconvenient times, and while calling a professional plumber is always an option, there are several common problems you can fix yourself. Learning a few basic plumbing repairs not only saves you time and money but also helps you avoid unnecessary stress.  Fixing a Leaky Faucet A leaky faucet might seem like a minor issue, but over time, it can waste a significant amount of water and increase your utility bills. To fix this, you’ll need to turn off the water supply, remove the handle and faucet cover, and inspect the parts. Replace any worn washers or O-rings with new ones, and reassemble the faucet. This simple fix can often eliminate the drip and restore your faucet to perfect working condition. Unclogging a Blocked Drain A clogged drain is one of the most common plumbing problems, but fortunately, it’s often an easy fix. The first step is to use a plunger to try to dislodge the blockage. If that doesn’t work, you can try a natural drai...

How long do water heaters last?

Image
The lifespan of tank and tankless heaters Tank How long your tank water heater lasts will depend on the manufacturer of the system. The expiration date can vary by a few years, all depending on the brand of your unit. Also, the duty rate of your system will affect whether you can squeeze more years out of the system or be forced to replace it prematurely. Tankless Unlike tank systems, tankless water heaters typically have a much longer lifespan and a less frequent duty rate. Unlike tank heaters, tankless heaters are used when hot water is needed. If a tankless system is properly cared for and maintained, it can last up to 20 years. Red Flags for System Replacement Insufficient Hot Water Supply This red flag is obvious. If your water heater isn't producing hot water or isn't producing enough of it, then it's time to consider a replacement. This problem can sometimes be fixed by adjusting the thermostat or getting replacement parts for the interior parts. However, if your sy...

Reasons why you need a professional plumber

Image
If you are like most homeowners, you probably call a professional plumber one to three times a year. Plumbing problems often range from minor basic problems to serious leaks.  Slow-draining sinks A slow-draining sink is not only annoying, but can even be unpleasant, depending on whether it is a partial or complete blockage. Even if you do everything you can to keep the drain clear, there are things that go by without you noticing. Kitchen drains often clog with grease and food particles. Bathroom drains are more likely to contain soap and hair residues. Untreated drains only get worse over time. Clogged toilets Unfortunately, clogged toilets can happen. Sometimes it can happen at the most inopportune and embarrassing times. Most people know that when they flush and the toilet fills up but does not empty, it is a problem. Sometimes clogs can be solved simply by flushing, but there are cases when nothing can be done and a professional plumber has to be called in.  The toi...

Replacing a bath tap with diverter lever

Image
A bath faucet diverter is a small flap behind the handle of your bath faucet that determines whether water flows from the shower or the bath faucet. With a single-lever faucet, you will probably need to push or pull the shower faucet handle to divert the water. With a three-handle bath mixer, the middle handle controls the diverter. If you want to replace the diverter on the bath mixer, you will need to access the pipes behind the shower mixer handle. Remove the existing cartridge First, close the shower tray so that no parts of the shower can fall down the drain. You can place a towel over the drain to do this. Next, remove the handle above the shaft of the shower fitting. Remove the screw and pull the handle off. You need to turn off the water by turning the shut-off screws for cold and hot water. Finally, remove the nut that holds the cartridge in place. You should do this with soft pliers so as not to damage the soft copper that is normally used for the pipes. Pull the cartr...
