How to repair a dripping shower head?

 Shutting off the water supply

Before starting any plumbing repair (in this case, repairing the dripping shower head), it is essential to shut off the water supply to the damaged component. The water shutoff valves built under the sink can be accessed. If the shut-off valve cannot be located, it is best to shut off the water supply to the house.

Remove the shower head from the pipe

Using a spanner, remove the shower head from the shower arm. You can do this by carefully turning the spanner anti-clockwise to loosen the nuts that hold the shower head in place.

When performing this operation, it is essential to note that too aggressive an action can damage the threads and nuts of the pipe. Therefore, the spanner should be used with caution.

Dismantling the shower head

Once the shower head has been removed, it is time to disassemble it. The operation depends on the type of shower head you have.

We recommend using a screwdriver or pliers to remove the screws and fasteners that hold the shower head components together. Do not overdo this operation, as any aggressiveness could damage the delicate components of the shower nozzle.

Inspect and replace damaged components

Once the shower head components are in place, inspect them for damage. Carefully assess the rubber washer, diverter valve, o-rings, valve body, etc. Identify any damaged parts and replace them with new ones.

It is important to note that sometimes damaged parts may not be the culprit for leaking shower nozzles. Problems such as mineral deposits inside the shower may also be the cause of these leaks, so it is essential to be careful. In such cases, you can turn to a professional for help.

Reassembling and reassembling the shower head

Once the inspection and replacement of components is complete, carefully reassemble the shower head. Use Teflon tape to seal all threaded connections, wrapping the first around the second in a clockwise direction.

Then reconnect the shower head to the tap handle using a spanner. During this operation, ensure that the hexagon nuts are not tightened to avoid damaging the threads.

Checking for leaks

Open the water supply and check for leaks. If you notice water dripping even after replacing components, tighten the bolts a little more to make sure there are no loose fittings.
