HOW TO REPAIR A SLOW-DRAINING SINK?

A slow drain is when the sink does not drain efficiently for more than two minutes.

The problems that cause a slow draining sink can be different.

It is therefore necessary to understand what the cause might be and find out how to solve the problem.

Although there is no particular solution to clear a clogged sink, you have several options to try.

You may choose to start with the simplest option.

Cleaning the sink plug

The sink plug is prone to catching hair and other debris because of its position at the mouth of the drain.

The trapped debris can swell, causing a slow drain.

You can easily unscrew the modern sink cap to clean it.

To remove the sink cap for cleaning, you can follow the instructions below:

Check under the sink, where it connects to the pipe. You will see a rod, a nut and a clip.

Using pliers, turn the nut to unlock it. Tighten the clip to release the small rod, then lift the plug from the drain.

Use a rag to remove and thoroughly clean the dirt and debris.

Dissolving mud

When slimy dirt coats the inside of the sink drain pipe, it narrows the opening.

This leads to slow drainage.

You can easily remove the sludge using normal household items, such as:

Empty one and a half cups of baking soda down the drain. Add half a cup of white vinegar.

The bubbly, bubbling reaction will help break up small clogs.

Make sure the drain is blocked with a cloth so that the reaction does not escape.

Wait 15 minutes before pouring boiling water down the drain to remove loose sludge.

Use a plunger

Sometimes the clog can be very far down the drain, where normal cleaning tools cannot reach.

In these situations, the plunger can be of great help.

Here is how to use a plunger:

Block the sink overflow hole with a rag and place the plunger on the drain.

Fill the basin with water, completely covering the plunger bowl. Dip it up and down in short but rapid movements to push a lot of air down the drain.

The clog has been cleared if you see the water in the sink flowing quickly.
