ELECTRICAL SAFETY TIPS THAT EVERY HOMEOWNER SHOULD KNOW

 AVOID OVERLOADING SOCKETS

The flow of electricity generates heat, and the more electricity flows, the more heat increases. Electrical sockets are rated for a certain amount of electricity - typically 15 amps - and exceeding this threshold can create dangerous conditions that can lead to a fire. If the circuit breaker is working properly, it should cut the power before the heat becomes excessive, but if a fuse does not blow, it could be a bad day.

FOLLOW THE APPLIANCE'S INSTRUCTIONS

All household appliances have specific instructions for use and, to be on the safe side, you should follow them. For the most part, appliances are quite simple, but pay particular attention to those that generate heat. Their heating elements absorb a lot of energy, pose a risk of electrocution near water and, if used incorrectly, can be a fire hazard.

USE EXTENSION CORDS SPARINGLY

It is said that there is nothing more durable than a temporary solution that works: and extension cords are often used in exactly this way! However, extension cords are only designed for temporary use and pose a serious fire risk if used for a long time or improperly.

Extension cords have a maximum amperage. Do not exceed this limit or the cable will start to overheat.

Avoid running extension cords inside walls or under carpets and rugs, as they may overheat.

Be careful of water, as extension cords can easily turn wet floors into electrified puddles.

REPLACE DAMAGED ELECTRIC CABLES

It goes without saying, but if you can see the inner conductor of an electric cable or if the cable has started to fray, it's time to replace it! Generally, replacing electrical cables is quite simple and does not require replacing the entire appliance.

INSTALL ELECTRIC CABLES IN AN ORDERLY MANNER

Although we are all guilty of having a tangle of cables behind our computer or TV set, it is a good idea to keep these cables tidy! These tangles make it difficult to detect dangerous situations such as plugs pulling out of sockets.

Furthermore, electrical cables should be positioned so that they are not a tripping hazard and away from curious children or pets that might be interested in unplugging or chewing on the plug!
