How to replace the toilet tank lever

 One of the parts of the toilet tank that often needs to be replaced is the toilet tank lever. Since the lever is normally made of metal, it rusts quickly when in contact with water and therefore does not last long. Knowing how to replace the toilet tank lever is an added advantage so that you do not have to call the plumber or a technician to replace it. Turning off the water

The first thing to do is to shut off the water supply to the toilet tank, so that you can work without wetting the whole room.

Emptying the tank

Let the tank empty by flushing the toilet.

Removing the lid

Remove the lid of the toilet tank to start removing the defective lever.

Remove chain

Remove the chain from the lever arm.

Remove nut and lever

Remove the nut from the lever handle by turning it clockwise. Once the nut has been completely removed, the lever can be removed from the tank.

Comparison of old and new lever

Compare the arm length of the old and new lever. If the new lever is longer than the old one, measure the correct length and use a hacksaw to cut the arm of the new lever to match that of the old one.

Secure the new lever

Insert the arm of the new lever through the hole in the tank, making sure that it fits perfectly into the hole. If you have a side- or angle-mounted tank, you will have to bend the lever arm to match the shape of the old lever.

Fasten the nut

Once the arm is perfectly inserted in the hole, take the locking nut and fix it on the lever arm. Make sure that the flat side of the nut is facing the handle.

Tighten the nut

Tighten the nut by hand. Remember that the thread is reversed.

Secure the chain

Attach the chain to the hole on the lever arm that gives the best possible thrust. When the flapper is lowered, there should be some slack.
