FOUR WAYS TO IMMEDIATELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF LOW WATER PRESSURE

Opening the shower or tap and discovering that the water comes out in a sad, slow drip is never a good feeling. How do you wash a pot or take a quick shower if it takes 10 minutes just to rinse off some soap? Here are some of the most common causes of low pressure and what you can do to solve the problem:

BUILD-UP OF DEBRIS AND MINERAL DEPOSITS

If you only notice low water pressure from one or two fixtures in your home, it is likely that the problem has to do with a build-up of debris. Water is full of minerals and other debris, which can accumulate in pipes and on fixtures. This can cause an obstruction that affects the flow of water. To solve this problem, try filling a small plastic bag with white vinegar and hanging it with a rubber band around the shower head or tap. Let it soak for a few hours and the vinegar should dissolve the deposits.

WATER LEAKS

Leaks are another common cause of low water pressure. If water escapes from the pipes through a hole or crack before reaching the appliance, the pressure coming out of the tap or shower head will be lower. The best way to detect and repair a leak in the pipes is to contact a plumbing professional.

A VALVE PROBLEM

If water pressure is low throughout your home, check the main shutoff valve to make sure it is fully open. You can also check whether a pressure-reducing valve has been installed. If so, ask a plumber to help you adjust the settings to achieve the desired pressure.

OTHERS USING WATER

Believe it or not, low water pressure could be caused by your neighbours. If you notice low pressure at certain times of the day, it could be because you and the people living next door have similar schedules: when everyone takes a shower at the same time, the pressure will be lower in each house. Low pressure throughout the neighbourhood can also be caused by a problem with the municipal water network.
