How to repair a bidet tap

Low water pressure or uninterrupted, intermittent or no water supply makes a bidet faucet inefficient. When the bidet faucet stops working properly, it's time to find the cause of the problem and fix it. To repair a bidet faucet or replace it with a new one, you only need basic plumbing knowledge.

Check the aerator

If the bidet mixer does not have sufficient pressure or only a small amount of water is coming out of the opening, there may be a problem with the aerator. The aerator filters the water coming out of the opening and may be clogged with solid debris. To repair the aerator, it must first be removed. To do this, turn off the tap. It is not necessary to switch off the main water supply. To remove the aerator, simply turn it anti-clockwise until it comes off.

Pull out the deposits inside the aerator with a finger. To remove the deposits in the filter, soak it in white vinegar for about ten minutes. Then use a toothbrush to remove the deposits. Rinse the aerator thoroughly before reinserting it. Do not overtighten it when reinserting to avoid damage.

Check the water supply pipes

If no water comes out of the tap, there may be a problem with the water pipes. Check whether the valves are open and whether there are any leaks. Leaks can cause the water pressure to drop, and therefore no more water will come out of the tap even if the tap is fully open.

Check the handles

Loose or broken tap handles can cause the water to flow continuously. If the handles are damaged or loose, you should remove and replace the stems. First switch off the water supply. Remove the protective cap on top of the handles and the screw holding the stem in place. Pull out the handle and buy a new one. Attach the new handles and restore the water supply.

Replace the entire tap

If the problems persist even after several repairs, it's time to replace the entire tap with a new and more efficient one. Purchase a replacement from a plumbing shop. To install the new tap, first turn off the water supply. Remove the old tap with a spanner. Switch on the water supply and test the newly installed bidet tap.
