Installation of a Clog-free toilet

We have enough to do in our daily lives without also having to worry about a clogged toilet. Clogs in the bathroom are no fun.

Fortunately, clever minds have developed toilets that clog much less frequently. This saves you the time and hassle of clogging the toilet or endlessly using the plunger to deal with this unpleasant task.

Choose a toilet

Clog-free toilets come in different sizes and shapes to suit your needs.

Choose whether you prefer oval or round, tall or regular, almond-shaped or white. You also have to choose between a one-piece and a two-piece model, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages.

If you are planning to install a seat or toilet raiser, now is also the right time to do so.

Consider whether the toilet you are considering will fit into the space available.

Believe it or not, toilets actually have different functions.

Of course, opt for a clog-free toilet, but there are also toilets with cleaning functions, or more precisely, cleaning-avoidance functions.

Unclog the old

First, turn off the water and disconnect all water hoses.

To remove the old toilet, remove the screws that secure it to the floor. They may be corroded and require a little persuasion.

Some toilets are attached to the wall instead, but the disassembly is almost the same.

Be careful because the toilet can easily splinter or break if accidentally hit with a hammer, spanner or other hard object.

Once all the fittings are removed, wiggle the toilet until it comes loose and remove it from the room.

Clean up

You will need a clean and level surface for your new clog-free toilet.

If you are going to lay new flooring, you should do this before installing the toilet. If you want to replace the toilet directly, simply remove all debris and clean the surface of the floor.

The slime under your toilet is probably wax from the toilet ring that fixes the toilet in place. It is not difficult to remove, but may need to be scraped off a little to loosen it from the floor.

Put the new ring in place

Wax rings used to be the standard option, and they are still a viable option. They are pliable and have stood the test of time for generations of plumbers and DIYers.

Decide on what you like best and insert it, following the instructions on the packaging.

Place the unclogged toilet

Carefully insert your new unclogged toilet, aligning the screw holes with the base or back of the toilet.

Press the toilet firmly into the floor ring. When it is properly inserted, there should be no more slack.

Then tighten the screws, being careful not to over-tighten them. If you tighten the screws too much, the toilet may crack or break.
