Installation of a sink for domestic use
A sink is a must for your laundry room, as well as the utility room and garage. Most home improvement stores carry plastic sinks with a capacity of 68 to 83 liters, which is enough for most laundry and housekeeping needs. They come with removable and adjustable legs so they can be placed on uneven surfaces. You will need to purchase your own faucet and drain, and installation is similar to a bathroom sink. However, locating it in the laundry room or garage usually means you don't have to bury the pipes in the wall.
Choose a suitable, reasonably level location for the sink
that is not too far from a sewer connection and plumbing. Placing it next to
the washing machine and connecting it to its supply and drain lines usually
works well.
Connect a sanitary tee to the nearest drain and run 5 cm of
ABS pipe to the location of the sink. Maintain a minimum slope of 6 per 30 cm
to the sewer.
Vent the sink drain by installing a 5 cm tee within 150 cm
of the proposed trap location, run a 5 cm pipe up and connect it to an existing
drain.
Turn off the water supply to the planned hot and cold water
lines, cut the pipes with a hacksaw, and solder a copper tee into each pipe.
Assemble two water lines that terminate at the sink and solder the pipes and
fittings using flux, lead-free solder and a propane torch. Solder a shutoff
valve to each pipe, turn off the valves, and turn on the water to check for
leaks.
Insert a faucet into the sink by fitting it into the holes
in the back and tightening the lock nuts underneath with adjustable pliers.
Screw a PVC end piece onto the sink drain from below and hand tighten.
Attach the feet to the sink by tightening one or two screws
per foot with a screwdriver. Place a level on the bottom of the sink and adjust
the legs so that the bubble is centered. If the sink is against a wall, you
should screw it to the wall after aligning it.
Connect the tap pipes with flexible hoses to the water
shut-off valves and tighten the hose connections with dust pliers.
Connect the drain end piece to the drain with a plastic
siphon assembly. Slide the trap opening up over the end piece and tighten the
coupling nut to hold it in place by hand. Twist the other end of the trap onto
the trap adapter, insert the pipe into the adapter and hand tighten the adapter
nut.
Turn on the shut-off valves, then open the faucet and fill
the sink. Allow the water to drain and check for leaks as it drains. If you
find leaks, tighten the connections with adjustable pliers.
